MANILA, Philippines — Beep on Friday, January 23, announced that it was removing all Stored Value Updaters (SVUs) and Express Renewal Devices (ERDs) from rail stations, as they were using outdated technology.
In a Facebook post, the operator of the Beep Card said that the SVUs and ERDs use outdated 3G technology.
Commuters can still use the Beep app to check their card balance, the operator said. If the phone is enabled by an NFC, users can tap their card onto their devices to check their balance or retrieve load transactions.
Meanwhile, the Beep Card can still be used in regular ticket vending machines (TVM) or tellers across stations.
The Department of Transportation further clarified that the Beep Cards are still usable, and that commuters can use the TVMs.
The SVUs and ERDs will be returned within the first quarter of the year, the agency said.
