LA TRINIDAD, , Philippines — Temperatures in Benguet continue to drop as its capital town La Trinidad registered 10.6 degrees Celsius yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
According to PAGASA, cooler weather is experienced in upland areas amid the continuing influence of the northeast monsoon or amihan, with yesterday’s temperature marking the lowest recorded reading for this season in La Trinidad.
PAGASA noted that the temperature is still higher than the lowest reading of 9.4 degrees Celsius on Jan. 25, which set the benchmark for extreme cold conditions in the town.
The weather bureau said similar low temperatures might continue to be recorded in elevated areas in Northern Luzon, including Baguio City, as the northeast monsoon remains active.
Authorities advised residents, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions against the cold by wearing warm clothing and staying indoor during the coldest parts of the day.
Farmers in more elevated areas, like Atok, Mankayan, Buguias and Kibungan towns in Buenguet are reminded to monitor crops closely, as prolonged cold weather may affect agricultural production.
