BOKOD, Benguet, Philippines — Motorists traveling along the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road here are being greeted by an unusual sight: a coffin placed by the roadside.

The display is part of the campaign of Barangay Ambuklao to remind motorists to prioritize safety when driving.

The stretch of highway, known for its sharp curves and steep terrain, has seen a number of road mishaps over the years.

Barangay Ambuklao officials said the display is not meant to frighten or offend the public, but to drive home the importance of slowing down, observing traffic regulations and staying alert while navigating the mountain road.

Photos of the roadside coffin, posted on the barangay’s social media page, quickly circulated online and drew mixed reactions, with many netizens describing the campaign as a powerful visual reminder of the consequences of reckless driving.

Barangay officials urged motorists, commuters and visitors to make road safety a priority, stressing that responsible decisions behind the wheel help save lives.
