MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection is investigating allegations that a BFP member gave the go-signal to volunteer firefighters to take bottles of liquor from the burning Landers Superstore Fairview on Wednesday.
BFP spokesman Supt. Anthony Arroyo said the probe on the looting incident would be expanded to include their own personnel.
One of the five volunteers accused of taking bottles of liquor from Landers told GMA News that a Quezon City Fire District personnel allowed them to go inside the store and take the liquor bottles.
The volunteer added that he would not have taken liquor from the store if there was no clearance from the BFP member.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City government has vowed to provide assistance to employees affected by the Landers fire.
In a statement, the city said it is coordinating with the supermarket’s management to determine how it can help their workers.
“Employees affected or temporarily displaced from work due to the incident will be provided financial assistance under the Alagang QC program,” the city government said in Filipino.
“With regard to the issue of the alleged theft or looting, the local government stands ready to assist in the ongoing investigation,” it added.
