MANILA, Philippines — Bonifacio Global City (BGC) is slated for an upgrade as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has teamed up with professional services firm SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co.) to update the estate’s master development plan.
In a statement yesterday, the BCDA said that it has partnered with SGV & Co. to update the plan that will guide BGC’s next phase of growth.
The aim is to complete the updated blueprint by September this year.
With the original development framework for the premier business and lifestyle hub put in place more than two decades ago, an update is needed to enable BGC to address emerging challenges such as traffic congestion, infrastructure constraints, climate risks and the need for more inclusive and accessible mobility.
Under the BCDA’s agreement with SGV & Co., consultations and a technical study will be conducted to update the development plan.
There will also be a review and strategic reallocation of BCDA’s gross floor area entitlements to ensure that development aligns with infrastructure capacity and optimizes land use and value.
The review will also identify underutilized areas for potential development or disposition.
Under the updated plan, there will be stronger emphasis on public spaces, streetscape improvements and active mobility.
It will also push for transit-oriented development to align land use planning with existing and planned transport systems.
By updating the plan, BCDA wants to ensure that the central business district continues to evolve and respond to current and future urban needs.
“We want to make sure that BGC continues to become more people-centric, with greater focus on open spaces, mobility and transportation,” BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang said.
Through the updated BGC development plan, BCDA also expects to attract and support long-term investments, generate employment, as well as improve mobility and accessibility for workers, residents and visitors.
“Moving forward, we want BGC to be more open and accessible to all sectors of society,” Bingcang said.
