BILIRAN District Rep. Gerardo Espina Jr., now in his third and final term, considers the proposed Biliran parallel bridge a crucial legacy project that will benefit future generations of Biliran residents.
Espina thanked the people for their trust and pledged to deliver significant projects during his final term, highlighting the new Biliran parallel bridge that will provide safer and more efficient travel between Biliran Island and mainland Leyte.
"I will serve well and secure funding for our province, including the social services and infrastructure projects that our province needs," Espina said in a statement on Monday.
"I can only say that in this final term, we will strive to implement legacy projects," he added.
The proposed Biliran parallel bridge will be a four-lane structure, spanning around 260 meters in length and covering an area of 4,383.60 square meters.

A new Biliran parallel bridge is considered urgent as it will be constructed alongside the aging Biliran Bridge, which has been under strict weight restrictions since a structural incident in December 2024.
"We can no longer rely solely on an old structure. The new bridge will ensure safety, promote mobility, and prepare us for the demands of the future," Espina said.
Espina noted that the new bridge will spur economic growth, support tourism, and improve disaster response by offering an alternate route, once funding is secured.
Although the initial P500 million funding proposal in 2022 was unsuccessful, the Biliran parallel bridge project has since garnered support from the Eastern Visayas Regional Development Council.
Upon completion, the bridge will link two landmasses, leaving a lasting legacy of progress for Biliran.
