BINGOPLUS, the country's most comprehensive digital entertainment platform, reeled in major sponsorship for the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) as support to strengthen the Philippine cinema in the international scene at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
MIFF is an annual event that promotes and honors Philippine-made motion pictures. Its goal is to showcase the craftiness and quality of Filipinos when it comes to different genres of film. The event was supposed to take place earlier in January but was postponed because of the tragic wildfires that happened in the state of Southern California.
A press conference was held for select media partners before the special screening of "Eraserheads: Combo on the Run Documentary," "Tribute to Genghis Khan," "The Debut" and "Love Hurts."
"Tribute to Genghis Khan" was among the zenith of the screening as it celebrated its 75th anniversary when it hit the international screen. From "pinilakang tabing" to the global scene, "Genghis Khan," directed by Manuel Conde, was the first Filipino picture that was introduced to international film festivals in Venice way back in 1952.
Additionally, a Director's Breakfast and a Director's Guild of America Tour were held at the Cavatina Restaurant in West Hollywood, California, before the second screening. The second set included the film "The Kingdom," where BingoPlus brand ambassador Piolo Pascual acted as Sulayman "Sulo" Tagum. The film portrayed the Philippines that wasn't colonized by invaders. Pascual's acting was praiseworthy, which resulted in a dual nomination for best actor, and he was awarded the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas cultural award at the Metro Manila Film Festival.
