MANILA, Philippines —  As students were taking their examinations yesterday morning, tension gripped the Quezon National High School after a bomb threat was sent to the QNHS social media pages, forcing authorities to send learners home as a precautionary measure.

Students and staff of Lucena West 1 Elementary School, located directly across the QNHS, were also dismissed as security officers scoured the area for bombs.

The bomb threat, sent from a dummy account using the name of provincial board member Kim Tan, claimed that a gang had planted bombs inside the QNHS campus.

Tan, in a statement, denied any involvement in the threat.

“I would like to clarify that a fake account using my name sent a message to the QNHS pages regarding a bomb threat. Clarification: This is not my official social media account,” the statement read.

Tan said the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation are investigating the incident to ensure the safety of students and teachers as well as identify and hold accountable those behind the fake account.
