MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go on Thursday visited the families affected by fire at Barangay 164 in Talipapa, Caloocan City on Dec. 1.

Go distributed financial assistance to 295 residents as well as food packs, snacks, water containers, shirts, vitamins and balls for each household. Select beneficiaries were given a bicycle, cellphone, shoes and watch.

“I know the hardships you are going through. It is hard to be a fire victim. What’s important is we are all alive. We can earn money and the things we lost, but a lost life is a life lost forever. Let us all help each other,” Go said.

During the distribution, Go discussed his efforts in the Senate to strengthen disaster preparedness and support mechanisms for communities affected by calamities, drawing connections between the suffering experienced by the fire victims and the systemic reforms he continues to advance.

Go expressed sadness and frustration over reports of irregularities in public projects, as he condemned corruption and called for accountability.

“I am one with the Filipino people in this fight and crusade against corruption in government. Let us all fight corruption. It would have been better if the government used the money we lost to the flood control and ghost projects to building classrooms, health centers and hospitals. Let us not allow ourselves to be fooled. Those responsible should be made accountable. Jail the corrupt,” Go stressed.
