MANILA, Philippines — Former Sen. Bong Revilla filed his counter-affidavit to answer graft allegations involving an allegedly non-existent flood control project in Bulacan.

Revilla, who chaired the Senate public works committee, submitted the document before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday, December 10, in response to a complaint for alleged violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

His lawyer, Franchesca Señga, said the former senator also turned in evidence to dispute the accusations.

“Maliban sa kanyang counter-affidavit ay nagsumite si Mr. Revilla ng mga ebidensya na magpapatunay na lahat ng nilalaman ng mga alegasyon, akusasyon, at mga reklamo laban sa kanya ay pawang kasinungalingan,” Señga said.

(Aside from his counter-affidavit, Mr. Revilla also submitted evidence to prove that all the content of the allegations, accusations, and complaints against him are absolutely nothing but lies and falsehoods.)

She added that Revilla hopes the DOJ will evaluate the evidence fairly and decide against elevating the case to court.

The complaint was filed in relation to a supposed flood control project in Bulacan that prosecutors described as non-existent.

On December 5, Prosecutor General Anthony Fadullon confirmed that Revilla and former lawmaker Zaldy Co were included as respondents in the investigation involving SYMS constructions.

Revilla has denied all allegations linked to the project.

This is the second major corruption scandal the former movie star was linked to. In 2013, Revilla was accused to be the largest contributor of legislative funds to scam organizations of businesswoman Janet Napoles. By 2021, however, Revilla was acquitted of multiple graft, plunder and malversations cases over the scheme.
