BAGUIO CITY — Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. will deliver a keynote address during the 80th Baguio Liberation Day 2025 Anniversary at 8 a.m. on April 27 at the Veterans Park, Harrison Road, here.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong will deliver welcome remarks, while Teresa Pomar, United States Armed Forces in the Philippines-Northern Luzon (Usafip-NL)-Baguio Benguet Chapter board chairman, will offer a prayer for World War II veterans.
The event is to commemorate and honor the veterans, particularly US and Philippine forces from the 33rd and 37th Divisions of the Sixth US Army and Cordilleran guerrillas of the 66th Infantry, Usafip-NL, who liberated Baguio City from Japanese invaders in 1945.
"The Liberation of Baguio was both a psychological and strategic victory for the Allied Forces, securing one of the key strongholds of the 'Shobu' Group's defensive triangle and crippling the Japanese force's ability to wage war in the North by cutting off their supply lines and disrupting their logistics," the mayor said.
He added the event "marks a historic victory that symbolized the resilience, courage and unity of the Allied Forces and the Filipino people."

The program will commence with the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" and "Lupang Hinirang," national anthems of the United States and the Philippines, respectively, followed by a wreath-laying activity.
The traditional ruffles, 21-gun salute, flying of the flags to half-mast and taps by the Philippine Military Academy will then ensue.
Performance of the native Cordilleran rituals of "owek" and "tayaw" will cap the program.
