MANILA, Philippines – Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza, among the controversial figures in the flood control scandal, were ordered detained at the Quezon City Jail in Payatas.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered this on Tuesday, January 20, a day after the engineers’ arrest at the Senate due to their non-bailable malversation case.

Apart from the two, other accused, including former senator Bong Revilla, are also committed at the facility under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. 

Revilla, Hernandez, Mendoza, and other DPWH Bulacan officials are facing malversation and graft cases due to a P92.8-million ghost flood control project in Bulacan.

According to the Office of the Ombudsman, which filed the case on January 16, the accused allegedly conspired to release P76 million for a project that was never built.
