DAVAO CITY — A police corporal here surrendered to the authorities shortly after allegedly killing a 39-year-old businesswoman on Sunday night, while the victim was inside a vehicle parked along Palma Gil St., in this city.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that the suspect, Cpl. Marvin Perez, assigned at Ecoland Police Station here, is now detained at Sta. Ana Police Station and waiting for the filing of murder charges against him.

Based on the testimonies of the two witnesses, they heard two successive gun bursts coming from a black pickup parked in front of a Korean restaurant in Palma Gil St. at around 11 p.m.

They saw a male person wearing black T-shirt paired with maong pants and wearing a bull cap casually walking from the scene heading to the corner of Bajada and Palma Gil Streets.

The victim was identified as Dianna, 39, single, and a resident of Belisario Heights, Barangay Anglionto, Davao City. She came out from said vehicle wounded and asking for help.

Policemen who arrived at the scene rushed the victim first to San Pedro Hospital and later transferred her to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

The witnesses positively identified the suspect as the very person whom they saw left the scene.

Recovered from the crime scene were two fired cartridge cases from a 9-mm caliber, and two fired bullets.

DCPO spokesman Cpt. Hazel Tuazon said the suspect was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the victim and reportedly had a quarrel over personal matters.

DCPO chief Col. Hansel Marantan assured the public that all legal actions will be pursued in accordance with established procedures.

Marantan reminded all personnel of their sworn duty to uphold the law, serve the public with integrity, and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.

Marantan advised all commanders to start evaluating the coping mechanism of every personnel of this office and make it one of the top priorities.
