MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have implemented heightened alert status nationwide from today, Dec. 20, to Jan. 4, 2026, anticipating the expected surge in passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
CAAP placed all airports, including 42 under their management, on alert, expecting at least 960,000 passengers this year, a seven percent increase from the 895,000 passengers recorded in 2024.
CAAP is also coordinating with local authorities, including the PNP-Aviation Security Unit, Office of Transportation Security, Department of Tourism, Civil Aeronautics Board and airlines to ensure the efficient processing of passengers, especially at check-in counters.
The PCG, for its part, placed all its regional offices, stations and sub-stations on heightened alert, implementing intense layered security by deploying coast guard K-9 dogs in all major ports to ensure that there are no prohibited items such as flammable and explosives being carried on ships.
Malasakit help desks have been designated at all airports and major seaports to assist travelers with their concerns.
In addition, security personnel will remain on heightened alert to maintain order and ensure passenger safety, while medical teams will be on standby to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies.
“The safety and convenience of the traveling public remain our top priority. We are ensuring that passengers experience safe, orderly and efficient airport operations throughout the holiday period,” said CAAP director general Raul del Rosario.
PCG spokesperson Noemie Cayabyab said they will not allow any ship to sail with excess passengers or those not on the manifest.
“We have also seen the influx of our countrymen to coastal beaches, we will be conducting daily patrols along with the deployment of rescue swimmers and lifeguards in island resorts,” she added.
