TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the Cavite Provincial Health Office (CPHO) has reported a rise in dengue cases across the province from Jan. 1 to May 10, 2025.
A total of 5,168 cases have been recorded in the province, marking a dramatic 376% increase compared to just 1,085 cases during the same period last year.
There have been 17 dengue-related deaths this year, PESU said.
Based on the breakdown released by Dr. Nelson Soriano, provincial health officer, 1 percent of the total cases were classified as severe and requiring medical attention; 63 percent or 3,262 cases showed warning signs such as abdominal pain, persistent vomiting and bleeding; and the remaining 36 percent of 1,852 cases had no warning signs.
The city of Bacoor emerged as the area with the most number of cases, accounting for 718 cases or 14 per-cent of the total.

This is followed by the city of Dasmariñas with 667 cases and the city of General Trias with 619 cases.
PESU also said that majority of patients were male, making up 53 percent of the total reported cases.
Health officials, however, continue to urge residents to take preventive measures against dengue, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and seeking early medical attention for symptoms.
The province has intensified its mosquito control program and public awareness campaign, given the "seri-ousness of the disease."
Individuals experiencing symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, muscle and joint pain are urged to seek immediate medical attention at their nearest health centers, PESU said.
