LAUREL, Batangas — The provincial government of Cavite signed a joint venture agreement with Megawide Corp. and Maplecrest Group Inc. for the Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) System project under the public-private partnership (PPP).
Cavite Gov. Athena Tolentino signed on behalf of the government sector during a ceremony held on Monday at the Twin Lakes Hotel Ballroom in Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway here, with Chief Business Development Officer Atty. Jaime Feliciano and CEO Edgar Saavedra representing Megawide Construction Corp. and president Erlaster Sotto and chairman Guillermo Choa of Maplecrest Group Inc.
According to Governor Tolentino, the bus transit system (a point-to-point system) will cover Kawit, General Trias, Imus, Tanza and Trece Martires, and would reduce the travel time from these locations by 25 percent.

"The project was approved on Dec. 26, 2024 and awarded to the proponent by the awards committee of the provincial government with the joint venture agreement," said Tolentino.
The Manila Times took the reaction of Imus City Mayor Alex Advincula who was a witness to the said program.
"Thank you and this CBRT Project has also been completed. This is a great help to our fellow citizens of Cavite, not only in Imus but in the entire province of Cavite," said Mayor Advincula in an interview with The Manila Times.
"This is a first in the Philippines, it will ease the fare and on-time arrival and I believe that when there is efficient mass transportation, the ordinary citizen will not buy a car and it will save a lot," said Advincula.
General Trias City Mayor Luis Ferrer IV for his part said the project is a big help as it will connect the Cavite big cities, especially those coming from Manila as majority of workers in Manila are residing in General Trias.
"It will be easier for them to go home," said Ferrer, adding the project is based on Singapore model.
The bus system has time elements for arrival and departure, no traffic, direct to PITX.
"This is a great help to the mass transportation system in the province, especially to the common workers who work Manila," added Ferrer.
Also present during the signing ceremony were Vice Gov. Shernan Jaro, board members Arnel Cantimbuhan, Raymundo del Rosario, Kerby Salazar and Rainier Ambion, and PPP Cavite chairman Renato Abutan.
