MANILA, Philippines — Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific is tightening its grip as the largest airline in Clark by becoming the first and only operator that would directly connect the gateway to Vietnam.
Cebu Pacific will be launching a direct flight between Clark and Hanoi starting May 2, marking the first service of its kind in Central Luzon and making it easier for travelers from the region to fly to Vietnam.
Cebu Pacific, the biggest airline by capacity at the Clark International Airport, will connect Clark and Hanoi thrice weekly, a schedule that gives the carrier flexibility to gauge travel demand.
Based on the flight calendar, Flight 5J 5872 headed for Hanoi flies out at 11:20 p.m. and lands at 2:10 a.m. the next day, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, Flight 5J 5873 bound for Manila goes out at 3:10 a.m. and arrives at 7:35 a.m., on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Cebu Pacific said it is deploying a 180-seater Airbus A320 for the flight. Cebu Pacific president and chief commercial officer Alexander Lao said the expansion underscores the airline’s desire to build up Clark as an international hub.
The carrier owned by the Gokongweis currently stands out as the largest carrier in Clark, which is being dressed up as an alternative gateway to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Hanoi will join Cebu Pacific’s growing roster of overseas flights from Clark, composed currently of Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.
“This route enhances travel options from Clark, allowing passengers from the north and center of Luzon to reach Hanoi more easily,” Lao said.
More importantly for Cebu Pacific, connecting Clark and Hanoi strengthens its case as the airline to beat in Philippine connections to Vietnam. The carrier offers weekly flights from Manila to Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, and it also operates Cebu trips to Ho Chi Minh.
Vietnam, which is becoming a dream destination of many Filipinos, received 308,679 tourists from the Philippines from January to October 2025, forcing airlines to add frequencies and expand further in the country.
Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, is known for historic streets like the Old Quarter and local cuisine like the Hanoi egg coffee, with the city just a few hours away from tourist must-go Halong Bay.
Cebu Pacific is promoting the new route with a seat sale until Feb. 1, with airfares of as low as P1 per way for flights to be made from May 2 to Oct. 31.
