MANILA, Philippines — Korean actor Cha Eun-woo apologized again after being linked to a tax controversy worth more than 20 billion won (P805 million).
Eun-woo was reportedly a person of interest by Korea's National Tax Service and the Seoul Regional Tax Office, the former noting he was being represented by label Fantagio and a supposed separate family company through his mother.
Both parties reportedly entered a service agreement, becoming an alleged avenue for the Astro member to lower taxes by splitting his income among his label, the family company and himself.
The artist, who is currently serving in the military with the Army Band, acknowledged the incident last January and vowed to participate in tax-related procedures, accept authorities' decision on the matter, and take full responsibility.
Posting another blacked out image on Instagram, Eun-woo confirmed he fully paid the taxes he owed and is complying with ongoing procedures.
"I am taking this matter very seriously and reflecting deeply. If there were aspects I failed to carefully review, the responsibility lies entirely with me," he said in Korean. "I will not avoid accountability by saying 'I didn't know' or that it was 'someone else's decision.'"
Eun-woo shared a company was indeed established to help manage his activities, though he admitted there were areas he did not thoroughly examine and reiterated taking responsibility for that fault.
"To ensure that such an issue does not happen again, I will apply stricter and more careful standards to all aspects of my activities moving forward. I will continue striving and trying my best to become someone who takes full responsibility for my choices and actions," Eun-woo said.
Born Lee Dong-min, Eun-woo made his acting debut in 2014 before debuting with the boy band Astro two years later in 2016.
His popularity led to projects like "Sweet Revenge," "Top Management" and his first leading role in "Gangnam Beauty." He made his solo debut as a singer in 2024 with the release of the extended play "Entity."
Prior to enlisting in the military, Eun-woo shot "The Wonderfools" opposite Park Eun-bin, which is due for release later this year.
