NARVACAN, Philippines — Former Ilocos Sur governor and multi-billionaire Luis “Chavit” Singson said Friday, June 12, that the cyber libel case filed against him will not stop him from pursuing what he described as efforts to expose alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.

Singson claimed the case goes beyond a private complaint, alleging that the manner of its filing was intended to publicly embarrass and intimidate him. He said he voluntarily posted bail but was required to undergo police processing before doing so.

He also questioned the circumstances surrounding the case, citing what he described as the swift pace of the proceedings and the involvement of a newly designated judge. He likewise raised concern over the public circulation of his booking photograph shortly after his processing following his arrest Thursday night in Quezon City.

The former governor linked the cyber libel complaint to his recent calls for a full investigation into flood control projects and the use of public funds earmarked for flood mitigation. He said attention should instead be focused on how billions of pesos in government funds were spent, rather than on the complaint against him.

Singson, who has been calling on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to step down and has accused him of drug use, also alleged in a radio interview Thursday night that First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos is behind efforts to silence him and other political critics through harassment cases. He further accused the First Lady of interfering in local government affairs in Ilocos Sur, without presenting evidence.

Despite this, Singson said he will continue speaking out and pursuing accountability. “I will not be silenced,” he said, adding that no arrest, court case or political pressure would deter him from seeking answers on the controversy.

Aside from the cyber libel case, Singson is also facing a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman filed by watchdog group Warriors for Narvacan in connection with alleged anomalies during his term as mayor.
