MANILA, Philippines — A China Coast Guard (CCG) patrol ship has been driven away off the coast of Zambales, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
The PCG’s BRP Cabra spotted CCG 3105 around 75.9 nautical miles from Palauig Point on May 31, PCG Commodore Jay Tarriela said Sunday.
The CCG ship did not respond to the PCG’s radio challenge.
Amid the exchange, Tarriela said Cabra had to respond to a Filipino fishing boat’s distress call.
Stranded near Panatag Shoal, John John was towed by Cabra to the port of Subic in Zambales.
Tarriela slammed the CCG for ignoring the distress call.
BRP Bagacay took over Cabra’s patrol duties in the meantime, he said.
CCG 3105 remains within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, Tarriela said.
