MANILA, Philippines — China Banking Corp. has named a former Citibank executive as its new chief compliance and governance officer as part of a senior management refresh approved by its board.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Chinabank said its board approved the appointment of Narlette Manacap-Jaravata as chief compliance and governance officer, with the rank of senior vice president, effective July 16.

She will replace Aileen Paulette de Jesus who will retire on June 30.

Chinabank said De Jesus would still be engaged by the bank on a contractual basis from July 1 to Dec. 31. She will also be appointed as adviser to the compliance group beginning July 16.

The bank said Jaravata is “a seasoned compliance and legal professional with more than 20 years of experience in the banking and insurance industries.”

She previously served as chief country compliance officer, head of the country anti-money laundering team and data protection officer at Citibank N.A. Philippines.

Jaravata also held key legal posts as legal counsel of Philippine AXA Life Insurance Corp. and legal officer of Bank of the Philippine Islands. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of San Carlos.

Apart from the compliance group changes, Chinabank also appointed Gabriel Villaluz III as division head of Corporate Banking Division 2 under the institutional banking segment, with the rank of first vice president I, effective June 8.

Villaluz has over three decades of experience in corporate finance, investment banking, portfolio and asset management and strategic business development.

A Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, Villaluz previously held senior leadership roles in Ayala Corp., where he served as associate director of portfolio and asset management and corporate finance officer for corporate strategy and business development.

He also worked at ACEN Corp. as business development officer, as well as ING Bank N.V. Manila and BPI Capital Corp. as an investment banker.

Villaluz earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering and Physics from the Ateneo de Manila University and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
