MANILA, Philippines — The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center is looking forward to an intensified drive against cybercrime following a meeting with the special committee on cybercrime and electronic evidence of the Supreme Court (SC).
In a statement yesterday, CICC executive director Alexander Ramos said the members of the SC committee led by Associate Justices Jose Lorenzo dela Rosa and Wilhelmina Jorge-Wagan were briefed on the mandate and operations of their agency pursuant to Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The meeting took place at the National Cybercrime Hub in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on March 21.
The committee is working to amend the rules on cybercrime warrants while the Department of Justice has formed a technical working group to enhance cybercrime investigation and prosecution guidelines. Ramos said the meeting came at a time when the SC has been victimized by false information.
“This is a chance for us to demonstrate to the judiciary the modern techniques and technologies available for law enforcers in the conduct of their mandates,” Ramos said.
He said advances in gathering and preserving evidence will improve the conviction rate and resolution of cybercrime cases.
During the meeting, CICC agents explained that electronic pieces of evidence are usually in the custody of law enforcers but they request for assistance from the agency because of their advanced tools.
The CICC also briefed the SC committee on various tools used in the prevention and suppression of cybercrimes such as anti-deepfake detector, social media listening and monitoring platform, chainalysis and international mobile subscriber identity detectors.
