MANILA, Philippines — Police probers yesterday reconstructed a crime scene in Dipaculao, Aurora, where two Ateneo Blue Eagles cagers drowned.
Cross-referencing the testimonies of coaches, student-athletes and other witnesses, probers are determining the exact location of Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili before the June 8 drowning incidents.
Probers have calculated the distance between dry beach surfaces and the water line for high tide conditions.
Using a 3D scanner, police captured accurate spatial data of the shoreline and scene.
They also mapped underwater topography and depth using sound navigation and ranging.
“Investigators are conducting a thorough safety audit to validate the presence of warning signages and required emergency safety measures along the beachfront area,” the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said.
Meanwhile, former Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin yesterday appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to provide his statement on the incident.
Baldwin, who appeared before the CIDG on June 19, declined to speak to media.
The NBI has subpoenaed over 20 people as part of its fact-finding investigation.
Initial findings from the autopsy showed both victims died of drowning, dismissing early speculation of foul play, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said.
Ateneo has declared a 40-day mourning period for Baterbonia and Adili.
