BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Filipinos have been advised to prepare for colder days as temperatures are expected to drop due to the northeast monsoon or amihan season.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the coolest months would be from January to February, with temperatures possibly dropping to 7.9 degrees Celsius, especially in Baguio City.
PAGASA climate specialist Ana Liza Solis said that lowest temperatures this month are forecast between 11.4 and 14.3 degrees Celsius.
By early next year, the monsoon may bring temperatures further down to 7.9 to 11.8 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, Baguio City recorded 13.6 degrees Celsius while Casiguran in Aurora registered 18.2 and Tanay in Rizal, 19.5 degrees Celsius.
Solis said that the coldest days are usually recorded in January and February, when the monsoon becomes strongest and the country typically experiences its lowest temperatures.
PAGASA warned residents in mountainous areas, especially in the Cordilleras such as northern Benguet about the possibility of frost harming crops.
