MANILA, Philippines — Employees of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) have joined the call against corruption in government, urging Filipinos to use their voting power to get rid of corrupt politicians come election time.
The Comelec Employees Union displayed a tarpaulin with the message “Gising na bayan. Bumoto ng tama. Itaguyod ang malinis at tapat na pamamahala (Nation, wake up. Vote wisely. Promote a clean and honest government)” at the poll body’s main office in Intramuros, Manila yesterday.
“We encourage all our chapters nationwide to hang the streamers in all Comelec field offices,” the group said.
Mac Ramirez, the union’s campaigns and advocacy director, said the group’s message highlights the importance of the role voters play in ensuring the integrity of elected public officials and their quality of governance.
“As citizens of a democracy, it is our responsibility to not just vote, but to vote wisely. Voting is our direct means of ensuring that leaders with integrity are elected to office,” Ramirez said.
“By way of our votes, we have the power to secure a government that is clean, honest and dedicated to the welfare of the people,” Ramirez added.
Imelda Panis, Comelec Employees Union president, urged people to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide voter registration activities, saying it is crucial for eligible Filipinos to register ahead of the elections.
“Your vote is your voice. Don’t miss the opportunity to be heard and to help shape the future of our country. Every vote counts, every registered voter strengthens our democracy,” Panis said.
The voter registration period will run until May 18, 2026.
