MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections has warned the public against an email using the Comelec’s name and asking for personal information.

In an advisory, the Comelec urged people to be careful in answering messages sent through the email address comelec.infoupdate@protonmail.

“The Comelec has no stakeholders relations division or department or a staff named Atty. Maria Carmela Gonzales of the information and education office as what was indicated in the message,” the poll body said.

Comelec advised those who received emails from this address not to click any link in the message sent as “this could be a phishing scam and might result to theft or use of personal information in illegal activities.”

“Never trust any electronic mail that is not using the official domain name comelec.gov.ph. Always secure your personal and sensitive information,” the Comelec said.

To engage with the poll body, people can visit the physical Comelec offices or inquire through its official email address.
