MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a complaint before the Department of Justice against those responsible for the circulation of the fake “polvoron” video involving President Marcos.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said they also explored the angle of the alleged involvement of former presidential spokesman Harry Roque behind the spread of the manipulated video, which made it appear that the President was using cocaine.
“Yes, we have that angle,” Santiago said, when asked if the revelation during the House tri-committee hearing could be used.
During the hearing last Tuesday, Pebbles Cunanan claimed that Roque was behind the release of what is now known as the “polvoron” video.
In an affidavit submitted to the panel, Cunanan expressed belief that Roque was the original source of the video and that he disseminated it to destroy the President’s credibility.
Roque, an ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte, responded by questioning the character of Cunanan, who he said has transformed from being a tough critic of Marcos to a “bootlicker.”
The President said he is leaving it up to law enforcement agencies to probe the allegation.
