The Philippines has a warm, humid climate for much of the year, but it is from the months of March to May when the heat truly intensifies, signaling the official start of summer.

During this season, it's crucial to stay safe from heat-related illnesses, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The Department of Health has shared tips to prevent these, such as staying hydrated, taking regular "heat breaks" to prevent overheating, and having proper ventilation at home.

Aside from these tips, GMA News Online has curated a list of summer essentials that may help you cool off in and out of the house and beat the heat this summer.

1. Cooling powder

In case you didn’t know, SNAKE, a household brand in Thailand, is now in the Philippines, and it offers cooling and skin relief products.

Among its bestselling products is the SNAKE Prickly Heat Original Cooling Powder (P165/140g), which provides instant cooling relief, especially from the heat and humidity of the summer season.

SNAKE is available in Watsons, SM Beauty, and Robinsons Supermarket.

2. Breathable clothes

Wearing light-colored, lightweight, and loose-fitting clothing is one of the things you can do to help lower your body temperature.

For women, wearing a bra during the summer may sometimes be uncomfortable because of the heat. So, this season, opt for breathable, lightweight clothes to help you stay comfortable and cool.

Uniqlo offers a fashion line dubbed Bratop (price varies for each piece) that combines a bra and a top into one. It’s ideal for summer because each style features molded cups and an elastic underband, not wire, that centers the bust for a flattering silhouette while providing support.

Uniqlo has various stores nationwide.

3. Cooling mist

Just because it’s summer and the heat may sometimes be unbearable doesn’t mean our daily grind stops. If you report to the office or simply have to run errands outside, then the Pastel Cooling Body Spray (P395) is ideal for you.

Spray it on your face and body anytime and anywhere to combat the summer season with its instant cooling and soothing effect.

Pastel is available on TikTok, Shopee, and Lazada.

4. Opt for shorts

DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo previously recommended scheduling outdoor activities and workouts before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. to avoid peak temperatures.

Working out during the summer season may be beneficial for some who want to sweat a little more, but for those who want to keep their routine consistent without being uncomfortable, you may opt for shorts instead of leggings to avoid overheating.

The Optime shorts (P2,200) from Adidas’ Spring/Summer 2025 collection offer CLIMACOOL technology to help wearers beat the heat. This technology allows maximum breathability and ventilation and wicks away sweat faster than other materials.

Adidas Philippines has various stores nationwide.

5. SPF, always!

Applying sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30 is one of the significant ways to protect the skin during the summer season. It's also best to choose sunscreen with UVB (Ultraviolet B) and UVA (Ultraviolet A) protection to avoid damaging and burning your skin.

The Revox B77 Daily Sun Shield (P599), which contains UVB+UVA filters as well as SPF 50, is ideal for those with oily skin. Not only does it shield you from the sun’s harmful UV rays, but it also nourishes your skin with its hydrating factors, such as Vitamin E. Its lightweight, non-greasy formula makes it perfect for everyday use.

Revox B77 is available on Lazada.
