MANILA, Philippines — "Multo," the hit song by local band Cup of Joe, scored a Best Song Asia nomination at the second-ever Music Awards Japan.

The ceremony organized by Japan's Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association debuted last year to honor musical talents from within Japan, around Asia and in the Western regions.

"Multo" made the category cut ahead of dozens other tracks from around Asia, including two other Filipino songs: Dionela's "Marilag" and Earl Agustin's "Tibok."

Cup of Joe's song faces tough competition in Best Song Asia, one of the ceremony's six major categories, against Grammy and Oscar winner "Golden" from the Netflix animated movie "KPop Demon Hunters."

Also nominated were "Tabola Bale" by Indonesian act Silet Open Up, "Dash" by Plave and "Drowning" by Woodz — the latter two hailing from Korea, where inaugural winner Aespa (for "Supernova") hails from.

Contending for Song of the Year are Hana's "Blue Jeans," Kenshi Yonezu's "Iris Out," Sakanaction's "Kaiju," Aina the End's "On The Way" and M!lk's "I Love You So Much I Could Die!"

Hana, Kenshi Yonezu and Sakanaction are also up for Artist of the Year against Fujii Kaze and last year's winner Mrs. Green Apple.

Final voting will run until May 20 ahead of the ceremony on June 13, taking place in Japan's Toyota Arena Tokyo.
