MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to launch its new command center soon that will consolidate real-time data and artificial intelligence (AI) analytics to guide evidence-based policymaking and modernize the management of the farm sector.
In a statement yesterday, the DA said Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. has urged officials and employees to accelerate data collection ahead of the launch.
The DA said the command center will consolidate real-time information on crop production, livestock inventories, weather, imports and exports, price movements, satellite field monitoring and supply chain conditions.
By centralizing data, the platform aims to help planners anticipate shortages, prevent oversupply, deploy interventions faster and improve coordination across regional offices.
Tiu Laurel also said the DA is exploring AI tools to enhance analysis and generate actionable insights.
“We need real data, not fake information, to ensure we make the right decisions and take correct actions,” Tiu Laurel said.
The system may be called GAIA or Government Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture, and is expected to simulate crop scenarios, optimize planting schedules, detect disease risks, monitor farmgate price distortions and recommend interventions aligned with national food security and farmer income goals.
“The success of the command center will rely heavily on agency-wide participation, from central offices down to regional and field units,” Tiu Laurel said.
With the command center, the DA said it aims to create a more responsive, transparent and forward-looking agricultural management system that stabilizes prices, safeguards supply and uplifts the livelihoods of millions of Filipino farmers.
Tiu Laurel said broad participation across the agency – from central offices to regional and field units – will be critical to the Command Center’s effectiveness.
