COTABATO CITY — Officers and personnel of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division assured Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro of their commitment to the government’s Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Operations (CADO) Program during a dialogue at their headquarters on Wednesday, December 17.

The Department of National Defense’s CADO Program focuses on strengthening the Armed Forces’ tactical capabilities and community-based peacebuilding initiatives.

Radio reports in Central Mindanao on Thursday said Teodoro, while at Camp Gen. Manuel T. Yan in Barangay Tuboran, Mawab, Davao de Oro, also lauded units of the 10th Infantry Division under Major Gen. Alvin Luzon for continuously implementing, in coordination with local government units, multisectoral community initiatives that have helped foster peace in remote areas once dominated by the now tactically weakened New People’s Army.

Teodoro also discussed the Department of National Defense’s CADO Program, which aims to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.

Luzon added that Teodoro was accompanied to the 10th Infantry Division’s headquarters by Major General Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command.

While at Camp Manuel T. Yan, Teodoro reportedly commended personnel from all units under the 10th Infantry Division, deployed across towns and cities in Regions 10, 11, and 13, for activities that complement joint peace and security initiatives with local government units, indigenous communities, and former New People’s Army members who have returned to the fold of law.

“The visit of Defense Secretary Teodoro to our headquarters boosted our morale and inspired us to work harder in spreading peace and calm in our area of responsibility,” Luzon said on Thursday.

Different units of the 10th Infantry Division have secured the surrender of 1,323 New People’s Army members over the past six years through backchannel dialogues supported by local government officials and leaders of indigenous communities in towns and cities under its jurisdiction.
