Dennis Padilla 'respects' daughter Claudia's decision to drop Baldivia name

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Dennis Padilla will not push back against his daughter Claudia Barretto, who is opting to drop the Baldivia surname from her legal name.

Baldivia is Dennis' real surname. Claudia is one of his children with ex-wife Marjorie Barretto. His other children with Marjorie are actress Julia and Leon. He has four other children from two other relationships.

Last June 8, Monday, Dennis posted on his Instagram account a portion of a court document which showed that Claudia was choosing to change her name from Claudia Isabelle Barretto Baldivia to just Claudia Isabelle Barretto.

The document was filed with the Regional Trial Court 302 located in Quezon City, with the Office of the Solicitor General, the Local Civil Registrars of Quezon City and Muntinlupa, and the Philippine Statistics Authority named as respondents.

"Kung ang lungkot ko ay kasiyahan mo anak... Hindi magbabago ang pagmamahal ko sa'yo Claudia," Dennis wrote in text covering the document while in the post's caption he said, "Love you Claui... I respect your decision... Malungkot lang talaga."

A seperate post by Dennis hours later showed an old photo of the actor with Claudia and Julia as kids, and in text again in the photo's corner attached the Baldivia name to both his daughters.

"With or without the family name, same love, same hope," Dennis wrote.

Julia attempted to legally change her name a decade ago but did not follow through with it. The actress signs Julia Francesca Barretto Baldivia in official documents.

"If my sadness will bring joy to you my children... My heart is full..." Dennis also said in the latter post's caption, repeating it in a comment. The comment sections of both posts were limited to several individuals.

Dennis and Marjorie were married for 12 years until their separation in 2007 and annulment two years later. Since then, the actor's relationship with his children, including Marjorie's eldest child Dani, has been strained. Dani is Marjorie's daughter with actor Kier Legaspi.
