MANILA, Philippines — The value of the country’s digital economy hit P2.74 trillion last year, driven by the continued increase in online transactions.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority yesterday showed that the Philippine digital economy’s value last year was higher than the P2.59 trillion in 2024.

While the value of the digital economy increased, its contribution to the country’s gross domestic product remained at 9.8 percent last year, unchanged from 2024.

The digital economy covers the following: digital-enabling infrastructure, digital content and media, e-commerce and government digital services.

Of these components, digital-enabling infrastructure had the largest share at P1.79 trillion last year.

Under this component, industries with the highest contributions were information and communication technology (ICT) services (27.1 percent), ICT manufacturing industries (13.6 percent); and ICT-enabled services (13.3 percent).

Meanwhile, e-commerce accounted for 32.2 percent or P880.46 billion of the digital economy last year.

Digital content and media had a 2.2 percent share valued at P58.84 billion.

Government digital services contributed 0.3 percent or P6.86 billion.

In terms of jobs, the digital economy employed 10.39 million last year, up by 1.2 percent from 10.27 million employees in 2024.

Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. chief economist Michael Ricafort attributed the higher digital economy value to the sustained increase in online or digital business transactions.

He said that the digital economy has the potential to increase its share in the overall economy over the next five to 10 years, with the entry of the younger generation in the workforce and greater adoption of digital services by the older generation.
