Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon checks repair works on the northbound lane of Dimasalang Bridge in Manila yesterday

MANILA, Philippines — The rehabilitated Dimasalang Bridge in Manila will reopen on Oct. 20, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
After more than four months of repairs, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon commended public works personnel as well as the Manila district engineering office and its contractor for accelerating civil works on the critical crossing.
“People have long complained about DPWH projects taking forever and suffering from poor workmanship,” Dizon said at yesterday’s inspection. “This bridge proves that when we focus, do things right and eliminate corruption, projects can be completed quickly and to high standards.”
Opening the bridge before Nov. 1 is crucial to accommodate motorists going to the Manila North Cemetery, Dizon said.
“If this project dragged past Undas, the resulting traffic congestion would have severely burdened commuters,” Dizon said.
Dizon thanked Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for granting a full road-closure permit for the project.
