MANILA, Philippines — Construction and engineering giant D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) is forging an alliance with other construction heavyweights to participate in the bidding for the construction of a new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Complex in Clark.

“The exciting bid is the complex of the BSP in Clark City, where the printing of money will be transferred from East Avenue to Clark City,” DMCI president and CEO Jorge Consunji said.

Consunji said DMCI would be forming a consortium together with two other local construction firms to join the bidding.

He declined to disclose their partners due to a non-disclosure agreement, but said they are also big names in the industry.

“The good thing here is, because of its national security nature, only the locals can bid. I think it’s one of the few projects where they have restrictions. So the foreigners are not allowed because of national security,” Consunji said.

The procurement process to appoint a general contractor was earlier expected in December last year.

Consunji said they are now expecting the bid invitation to come out within the first quarter.

The new complex will house the BSP’s new security plant and other key operations.

It is planned to have extensive and robust security features to safeguard the its currency production facilities, data center and IT systems.

Procurement for design consultancy services for the “Restricted Zone,” where the currency production facilities will rise, was previously reported to have an approved budget of P75.7 million for the architectural and engineering contract funded from BSP’s corporate resources.

In 2022, BSP signed a contract with global integrated design and technology architectural firm Aidea Inc. for the architectural and engineering design services of the BSP Complex.

The BSP said that Aidea’s design services cover the development of 21.32-hectares of the publicly accessible and semi-restricted areas, which include an office building, a data and command center, a museum, academic buildings, a sports complex and commercial stalls.

Last year, DMCI has been selected as the lowest bidder for Contract Package (CP) 105 for the Metro Manila Subway Project.

The company teamed up with Japanese builder Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd. in bidding for CP 105, which brings the subway to the southern part of Metro Manila.

Consunji said that DMCI’s order book last year reached around P35 billion to P40 billion.

DMCI serves as the construction arm of the Consunji-led conglomerate DMCI Holdings Inc.
