THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down three language training centers linked to illegal recruitment on Friday.

In a statement, the DMW ordered the following institutions closed: IWA Language Learning Center located in Km. 42 McArthur Highway, Bulihan, Malolos, Bulacan; Aseanway Learning and Development Center located in Rocka Drive Villares, Pio Cruzcosa, Calumpit, Bulacan; and Aseanway Learning and Development Center Cebu branch in Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

These centers were the 11th, 12th and 13th establishments closed by the DMW's Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) this year.

MWPB Director Geraldine Mendez said the IWA Language Learning Center in Bulacan started operations this year with the "modus of referring their students to their partner recruitment agencies after they finished their training."

Mendez also said that the training center is asking P50,000 to P70,000 to its trainees in exchange for jobs in Japan, South Korea and some European countries as factory workers, hotel staff, agriculture workers and fruit pickers.

DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia, who led the Malolos operation, said the language center is "not authorized to hire, refer and procure workers for jobs abroad."

Two other officials led operations against the Aseanway Centers in Calumpit and Cebu.

Olalia said they are now conducting a full investigation on the identities of the registered owners of the establishments.
