The DOH said 425 beds were reserved for leptospirosis patients in different public hospitals in Metro Manila.

MANILA, Philippines — With leptospirosis cases expected to surge again amid the continuous monsoon rains, the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday more beds in government hospitals were allocated for patients needing admission.

The DOH said 425 beds were reserved for leptospirosis patients in different public hospitals in Metro Manila.

The DOH said current hospital admissions stand at 287, leaving 138 beds for leptospirosis vacant.

San Lazaro Hospital registered the highest number of leptospirosis admissions with 97. Of the number, 76 are adults while 21 are children.

This was followed by East Avenue Medical Center with 54 admissions while Quirino Memorial Medical Center had 24.

There were 22 admissions at the Tondo Medical Center and 18 at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

The DOH reported that 127 hemodialysis machines are available.

As of Aug. 29, the DOH had recorded 6,253 leptospirosis cases nationwide.
