SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — The Central Luzon Center for Health Development (CLCHD) has started its preparation for fireworks-related injuries in the region, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Dr. Corazon Flores, CLCHD chief, said the center has begun its monitoring of the equipment and staff of all DOH hospitals in Central Luzon, to ensure that health facilities and personnel are ready to respond to cases of fireworks-related injuries.

The region is the center of the fireworks industry.

Flores said the monitoring includes the assessment of hospital facilities and manpower.

She added that hospital personnel in the region were given orientations on the latest monitoring reports of the DOH Action Paputok Injury Reduction campaign.

Flores reminded holiday revelers to make their celebrations safe and enjoyable by eating the right food and avoiding the use of firecrackers, among other safety measures, during the holidays.

She also urged the public to observe discipline, exercise regularly and ensure safe travels.

The DOH recently intensified its online national electronic injury surveillance system – a real-time monitoring tool for cases of fireworks-related injuries, road-crash incidents, strokes and coronary or pulmonary diseases.
