MANILA, Philippines — Following President Marcos’ directive, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin implementing improvements along EDSA to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians and commuters.

Among the short-term measures to be implemented are widening of pedestrian lanes, creating shared bicycle lanes and repair stops, constructing pedestrian waiting sheds and removing obstructions along commuter pathways.

DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez and DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon led a joint inspection of pedestrian infrastructure on EDSA yesterday.

The two officials inspected the pedestrian stretch from Ayala Avenue in Makati to Roxas Boulevard in Pasay.

Dizon said commuters “suffer constant stress along EDSA.”

“As the President has said, we need to fix EDSA. People have been complaining for so long and nothing has changed,” Dizon said.
