'We believe the Hotel 101 concept will be able to make a significant contribution in terms of room keys to complement the 2030 Vision of the kingdom,' says Edgar 'Injap' Sia II, co-founder of Hotel 101's parent firm DoubleDragon

MANILA, Philippines – DoubleDragon Corporation is bringing Hotel 101 to Saudi Arabia following its partnership with the Horizon Group.

In a stock exchange filing on Thursday, May 29, the real estate firm of tycoon Edgar “Injap” Sia II announced it entered a joint venture with Horizon to develop around 10,000 hotel rooms worth P137.5 billion.

The first Hotel 101 project will be in Medina, followed by the capital Riyadh, then Jeddah, Abha, and Alula.

“We are inspired by the leaders of Saudi Arabia and their sheer domination and willpower to make things happen. As such, we are confident in the plans they have laid out for the region and we believe the Hotel 101 concept will be able to make a significant contribution in terms of room keys to complement the 2030 Vision of the kingdom,” Sia said.

DoubleDragon wrote in its disclosure that it recognized the strategic opportunities presented by the Saudi market, and committed to rolling out standardized hotel offerings with an average of 500 rooms per site.

Saudi Arabia welcomed 27 million international tourists in 2023. The Middle Eastern kingdom was also a top destination for overseas Filipino workers that year, accounting for 20% of all OFWs.

Aside from the recent partnership, Hotel 101 is also expanding to Japan and Spain. Its property in Madrid — which happens to be located next to the F1 Grand Prix 2026 venue — is set for completion by December, just a month before the racing event.
