MANILA, Philippines — A transport network vehicle service driver who left a Quezon City gasoline station with unpaid fuel of more than P5,000 has surrendered to police.

The suspect, known only as Jefferson, 27, surrendered on Monday to the La Loma police station 1.

Facing estafa charges, Jefferson went viral on social media after closed-circuit television footage on March 22 showed a vehicle leaving a gas station in Barangay Apolonio Samson without paying P5,196.45 worth of fuel.

Jefferson stayed at his house in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan and avoided social media upon discovering that his act had gone viral.

“Efforts led to the identification of the vehicle and the person involved in the incident,” Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said.

QCPD Station 1 commander Lt. Col. Jose Luis Aguirre said Jefferson told probers that he had no money to pay for the fuel.

“His child is about to graduate,” Aguirre told radio dzBB.
