MANILA, Philippines — Prices of school supplies remain within suggested price ranges, while supply is adequate ahead of the opening of classes, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

This was based on monitoring conducted by Trade Secretary Cristina Roque and DTI Fair Trade Group assistant secretary Regino Mallari Jr. to check on school supplies being sold by retail stores, public markets and vendors.

The DTI said the inspection showed there are sufficient stocks of school supplies.

In addition, it said the monitored school supplies were found to be sold within the suggested ranges in the DTI’s price guide.

The DTI said under this year’s price guide, 109 stock keeping units retained their prices from 2025.

It also said that 22 listed items, mostly writing materials, had minimal price increases, while some had price drops ranging from P1 to P27.

Those with price decreases include notebooks, pad paper, intermediate pad, writing materials and erasers.

Under the DTI’s price guide, a writing notebook (80 leaves) and composition notebook (80 leaves) both have a suggested price range of P13 to P52.

Spiral notebook (80 leaves) is priced between P14 and P49, while a yarn notebook (80 leaves) has a price range of P14 to P47.

As for grade pad paper, the price range is from P13 to P37, while intermediate pad paper costs P22 to P69.75.

A pencil is priced from P12 to P18, while a ballpen is available for P3 to P21.

For a box of eight or 24 crayons, the price ranges from P12 to P114, while eraser costs P8 to P20 apiece.

A sharpener is available for P16 to P69, while a ruler has a price range of P8 to P32.

To ensure availability and fair pricing, as well as compliance with consumer protection laws, the DTI said it will continue to conduct its nationwide market monitoring.

It warned retailers against unjustified price increases and other unfair trade practices.

Consumers may report pricing violations through the DTI consumer care hotline 1-DTI (1-384), [email protected] or [email protected].
