MANILA, Philippines — Shipping giant 2GO Group Inc. has agreed to provide transport services and advisory support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) identified by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
2GO said it has signed a memorandum of agreement with the DTI to formally become a member of the Supply Chain and Logistics Center.
Under this, 2GO became part of the DTI’s dedicated body for logistics services, under which the agency supports SMEs in expanding their market and improving their efficiency.
The memorandum requires 2GO to extend not just its freight services, but advisory support and logistics consultancy as well. The partnership aims to provide specific solutions that bring down costs and scale up efficiency for SMEs registered with the DTI.
Likewise, 2GO will support the center’s efforts by participating in business matching and market linkage activities. The company will also help the DTI establish support desks in select Negosyo Centers across the archipelago.
Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Roque said enlisting 2GO’s expertise would strengthen the DTI’s capacity to support SMEs in their quest to grow bigger and wider.
2GO business unit head for forwarding Faye Alonzo said the company is prepared to work with the DTI in coming up with the solutions needed by SMEs.
“Our team is ready to support a wide range of logistics requirements, from basic shipping needs, to more complex supply chain solutions,” Alonzo said.
The 2GO collaboration with the DTI comes at a time when the shipper is expanding its portfolio of freight services, with logistics demand growing at least six percent yearly. 2GO estimates the Philippine logistics market has reached $55.65 billion as of 2024.
From there on, 2GO projects the industry to rise by six percent annually until 2030. The forecast leans on the growth story of the e-commerce segment, which was expected to breach $28 billion in 2025.
2GO is widening its service menu, from express delivery and freight cargo, to digital fulfillment and sea travel, in response to business and consumer requirements.
The DTI, for its part, is developing solutions and tying up with shippers to simplify the logistics chain for SMEs, giving them the chance to reach new markets without breaking the bank.
