MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Duterte family will not be allowed to visit the former president during confirmation of charges hearings at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.
In a statement, the Duterte family yesterday said that while there are no approved in-person family visits to the detained former president, his Filipino legal team would be present during the court hearings on Feb. 23, 24, 26 and 27 to make sure that he would be properly represented. Telephone calls, however, will still be allowed.
Expected to be present at the confirmation of charges hearings are former Duterte administration officials: executive secretary Salvador Medialdea, former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairman Martin Delgra III, former Labor chief Silvestre Bello III, former revenue chief Caesar Dulay, former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo and former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. chief operating officer Alfredo Lim Jr.
“We thank the legal team for their continued dedication and professionalism during this critical time,” the Duterte family said.
The family also extended its appreciation to the Filipino community in The Hague for ensuring a platform is available for every Filipino who wants to speak out.
Duterte is facing charges of crimes against humanity for the deaths of thousands during his administration’s bloody war on drugs.
