Alex Eala is set for another main draw appearance as she competes in the 2025 US Open next month. This marks her third main draw appearance in a Grand Slam tournament, but her first direct entry into the US Open -- thanks to her current Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking of No. 56.Last year, Eala came close to reaching the main draw but fell short in the third round of the qualifiers, losing in three sets to Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The 20-year-old is currently in the country, taking a much-needed break after wrapping up her grass court season at the Wimbledon Championships, where she put up a gallant stand against defending champion Barbora Krejcikova before falling in three sets in their first-round match.World No. 1 and reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka and last year’s bridesmaid Jessica Pegula banner the entry list released by the US Open, which also has world No. 2 Coco Gauff, recently-crowned Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek, and Top 10 players Mirra Andreeva, Zheng Qinwen, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini, and Paula Badosa.Leylah Fernandez, a Canadian of Filipino descent and 2021 US Open finalist, is also on the entry list. She is currently ranked No. 35 in the world.Eala is scheduled to open her hard court season by competing at the Montreal WTA1000 in Canada starting this Sunday, July 27.
