Eldrew Yulo captures a pair of bronzes in floor exercise and horizontal bar in the Cairo World Cup in Egypt as he boosts his chances of qualifying for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships

MANILA, Philippines – Eldrew Yulo continues to impress early in his first year as a senior.

The 18-year-old wrapped up his stint in the Cairo, Egypt leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series with two medals as he bagged a pair of bronzes in floor exercise and horizontal bar.

Yulo landed third in the floor exercise final on Sunday, April 5, then replicated the same finish in the horizontal bar final on Monday, April 6, to raise his World Cup medal haul to three.

The floor exercise champion in the Antalya World Cup in Turkey three weeks ago, Yulo won a second straight medal in the apparatus as he scored 14.0 points to place behind Russia’s Daniel Marinov and Arsenii Dukhno.

Marinov won gold with 14.233 points, while Dukhno clinched silver with 14.133 points.

Yulo then captured his first senior medal in horizontal bar by netting 13.733 points, completing the podium together with China’s Li Hongyan (14.4) and Cyprus’ Marios Georgiou (13.9).

With two consecutive podium finishes in floor exercise, Yulo has put himself in a good position to book a ticket to the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in October.

Through the World Cup series, the top eight gymnasts with the highest four-meet point total in each apparatus will be eligible to qualify for the World Championships.

Yulo ranks first in floor exercise as he also placed sixth in the Baku World Cup in Azerbaijan in March.

The World Cup series ends with the Osijek, Croatia stop scheduled from April 9 to 12. – Rappler.com
