From the Ilocos Region, Emong (Co-may) moves to the Cordillera Administrative Region, where it starts weakening early Friday morning, July 25

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Emong (Co-may) made its second landfall in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, at 5:10 am on Friday, July 25, then weakened into a severe tropical storm while crossing the mountainous terrain of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

In its 8 am bulletin on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Emong was already in the vicinity of San Isidro, Abra, as of 7 am.

The severe tropical storm is moving north northeast at a slightly faster 25 kilometers per hour from the previous 20 km/h.

Its maximum sustained winds are down to 100 km/h from 120 km/h — its peak intensity — and it is expected to keep weakening in the coming hours and days. Its gustiness remains at 165 km/h, so far.

When Emong was at its peak intensity, it had made its first landfall in Agno, Pangasinan, at 10:40 pm on Thursday, July 24.
