Jewel Encarnacion eyes growth with her new ‘family,’ Choco Mucho, ahead of the new Premier Volleyball League season.

The former University of the Philippines standout signed with the Flying Titans together with her captain and teammate Dawn Macandili-Catindig after Cignal’s leave of absence from the PVL just days removed from a runner-up finish in the All-Filipino Conference last April.

With the Flying Titans giving her an opportunity, Encarnacion hopes to repay the trust by becoming a reliable scorer.

“My goal is really to continue improving myself to the best that I can, to build great chemistry with the team, and to become one of the terminating outside hitters that Choco Mucho can rely on,” Encarnacion told the Inquirer.

“I want to keep growing with this family and help the team achieve our ultimate goal,” went on. “They can expect someone who’s always willing to learn and work hard. I’ll continue to stay coachable and do everything I can to contribute to the team’s success.” The 25-year-old outside spiker was drafted 15th overall by Galeries Tower in the 2024 proceedings and joined Cignal late last year.

In the upcoming PVL on Tour, Encarnacion is set to make her debut for the Flying Titans, with a goal to strengthen her connection and mastery of coach Dante Alinsunurin’s system.

“I’ll take this opportunity to try new things, while continuing to develop chemistry with my teammates, especially with our setters,” she said. “I think this is the perfect opportunity for us to keep building that connection before the major conferences.”

The On Tour has now become just a showcase instead of a tournament to satisfy FIVB requirements.

“Choco Mucho has a different system, so I told myself that I have to consistently put in the effort to learn the movements, patterns, code names, technical terms, and the tempo of the sets,” Encarnacion said. “That way, I can stay in sync with the team, execute more cleanly on the court, and contribute to the chemistry they’ve already built.”

Choco Mucho, which won’t have Sisi Rondina until the year-ending Reinforced Conference due to the Asian Games beach volleyball competition, begins its preseason against ZUS Coffee on July 11 in Batangas City.
