MANILA, Philippines — The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) and Manila Electric Co. are exploring new areas of collaboration to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption.

In a statement yesterday, the EVAP said it recently met with Meralco to reaffirm and strengthen their partnership in promoting EV use and sustainable transport in the country.

The EVAP delegation was led by chairmen Ferdinand Raquelsantos and Rommel Juan, along with president Edmund Araga, while Meralco’s team was headed by executive vice president and chief operating officer Ronnie Aperocho.

Discussions covered the need for an ecosystem-wide approach that involves manufacturers, fleet operators, charging providers, government agencies and utilities to address barriers to EV adoption.

During the meeting, the parties also emphasized the importance of aligning energy planning regulatory frameworks and sustainability programs.

Through this alignment, the parties want to ensure that increased EV use is supported by a stable, reliable and future-ready power grid.

To strengthen their collaboration, EVAP and Meralco are looking at organizing more EV conferences, technical forums and high-level industry summits.

Through these initiatives, the parties aim to enhance public education and elevate discussions on charging infrastructure.

The parties also want to promote national readiness for rising EV demand.

During the meeting, the parties also underscored how the global shift to cleaner mobility presents a defining opportunity for the Philippines.
