TUGUEGARAO CITY — The alleged killer of a former city councilor was turned over to the police here on Friday after surrendering in Mandaluyong City.
The suspect, identified only as "Gabby," 44, a native of Iguig town and resident of Santa Maria, Bulacan, has a pending arrest warrant for the 2014 killing of former city councilor Rosemarie Bunagan-Bansig at the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 in Tuguegarao City.
Cagayan Valley regional police director BGen. Antonio Marallag Jr. earlier ordered a review of pending arrest warrants against Gabby since it has been 11 years since the killing of Bunagan-Bansig happened.
Col. Rodelio Samson, PNP – Region 2 deputy regional director for operations, said Gabby gave up to the Mandaluyong city police through a radio program of a senator before he was turned over to the Cagayan Valley police.
The councilor's husband, Col. Tim Bansig of the Army Judge Advocate General's Office, said it was difficult to track down those behind the killing.

"The anger in our hearts has disappeared but justice is needed," Bansig said.
He believed that the arrested gunman is not the real killer as the mastermind, who is still unknown, is still on the loose.
Bansig also asked the authorities to watch the suspect "because with his surrender comes the possibility that someone will attempt on his life so that the truth behind the crime cannot be revealed."
The late councilor was traveling with her driver, Elmer Narag, along Buntun-Pallua Road in this city when two motorcycle-riding men shot them.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive of the killing. A personal grudge, vendetta, or work-related issues are being eyed.
